Mining Engineers work in mining and mineral extraction facilities. They are in charge of coordinating and supervising all the activities in the mine regarding digging, extracting, and transporting minerals out of the mine.
Master of Science in Mining Engineering is a two-year full-time MSc degree program that is aimed at training engineers who can design, conduct and manage mining operations as well as developing research skills and knowledge to support the mining industry in order to ensure safe, environmentally friendly, and economically viable mining.
At NU SMG students learn mining methods that are used locally and how to adapt them to international standards. Graduates of NU SMG are able to adapt quickly to local and global industry needs and apply their knowledge to diverse work conditions, since the study program is practically oriented and can be easily applied to real life work projects in the mining industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and worldwide.
Hello everyone, my name is Nursulu. I am a graduate student. I graduated in 2019, but the very first time I visited the university was in 2016. I was attending as a guest and visiting a forum. On that day, I fell in love with the university's infrastructure. The first place I visited was the university library, and I immediately knew that I wanted to study here. After joining the university, I experienced two incredible years of my life. The university gave me many skills, and most importantly, it taught me to believe in myself, in my future, and, even more significantly, the university believed in me. It helped shape my future career. While studying, I had the opportunity to lead projects at underground mines in Kazakhstan, including the Voskhod Yildirim mine and Kazzinc mine, where I gained valuable experience for my career.
Beyond academics, the university offers a vibrant student life with over 2,000 student clubs, and most importantly, it gives you the chance to start your own club. Currently, I work at KAZ Minerals, one of the leading corporations in Kazakhstan, as a geotechnical engineer in the head office. I strongly encourage you to start your journey with Nazarbayev University.
The program mirrors the mission of the School of Mining and Geosciences by aiming:
To equip students with the advanced level scientific skills and knowledge needed within the mining industry.
To train engineers to solve complex engineering problems within mining using their analytical, intellectual and critical thinking skills.
To furnish the students with up-to-date scientific tools and techniques.
To conduct research to expand knowledge and technology to ensure safe, environmentally friendly and economically viable prospection and extraction of natural resources.
