Application process

What is the application process for undergraduate programs?
Undergraduate applicants must complete and submit the online application and required documents until the deadline (15 April, 2019). If you experience any difficulties with registration or online application, please contact us at +7 7172 706689 and dtukayeva@nu.edu.kz To apply:
STEP 1. Create your personal account “Sign up” at www.admissions.nu.edu.kz and receive access to the online Application Form under “My Application Forms” section in your personal account
STEP 2. Complete your Application Form and attach required documents Fill out your Application Form and upload documents: 1.  Copy of the National ID card or passport. 2.  Scanned copy of academic records available by the time of application (secondary school certificate (Attestat) with final academic performance or predicted grades, current transcripts, etc.) 3.  Signed and scanned Applicant Consent Form on Personal Data Processing 4.  Personal Statement 5.  Valid official IELTS or TOEFL Certificate 6.  Copies or/and valid official the test reports (SATACT, etc.)
STEP 3. Pay an application fee Application fee is paid online via your personal account with a bank card authorized for online/internet transactions. Amount to pay is 5 000 tenge for domestic applicants and 14 000 tenge for non-citizens. All Application Fees are non-refundable

What is the tuition fee for undergraduate programs?

Education at the undergraduate level is carried out on the basis of the “Nazarbayev University” educational grant, other grants and scholarships, as well as on a fee basis. Enrollment to the undergraduate programs of the Schools is performed on a competitive basis for available places of the first and/or second academic year at the University.

What is the tuition fee for graduate programs?

Education at the graduate level is carried out on the basis of the “Nazarbayev University” educational grant, other grants and scholarships, as well as on a fee basis. Enrollment to the graduate programs of the Schools is performed on a competitive basis for available places of the first and/or second academic year at the University.

What is the language of instruction?

The language of instruction at the University is English.

What is NUFYP?

Nazarbayev University Foundation Year Program (NUFYP) is a new preparatory program designed to give all students the opportunity to experience the whole range of options before finally commiting to their chosen undergraduate track. The main purpose of the program is to help students to develop the skills, knowledge, understanding, attitudes and behaviours required to undertake further advanced study in their chosen field of study.

What is NUZYP?

Master’s program provides the opportunity to study at “Zero year of Master`s programs”- a two-semester, full-time intensive English and content course program for students to NUmaster’s programs who lack the English requirement necessary for immediate entry.

Will there be an internship during my studies?

Yes, academic programs include internship opportunities as part of learning process.

Do I need work experience in order to apply for Master program?

No, it is optional. However, it is recommended for those applicants, who have GPA of lower than 2.75 out of 4.0  to have at least 2 years of relevant technical experience.

What are career possibilities if I graduate with MSc in Mining Engineering?

There is a Career and Advising Center in Nazarbayev University that is designed to encourage student excellence in career development and preparation as well as facilitate the acquisition of a job prior to graduation by organization of student internship, employer presentations in Nazarbayev University and professional development Program, tours and job fairs. At the same time, internships can be useful as a pathway to land a job.

What are career possibilities if I graduate with MSc in Petroleum Engineering?

There is a Career and Advising Center in Nazarbayev University that is designed to encourage student excellence in career development and preparation as well as facilitate the acquisition of a job prior to graduation by organization of student internship, employer presentations in Nazarbayev University and professional development Program, tours and job fairs. At the same time, internships can be useful as a pathway to land a job.

How many years does it take to complete undergraduate program?

To complete an undergraduate degree students have to earn 120 credits in 4 years of study.

How many years does it take to complete graduate program?

To complete a graduate degree students have to earn 120 credits in 2 years of study.

What opportunities does SMG offer under the academic mobility program?

SMG is open for accepting students from local universities, scholars to do research in the laboratories and faculty members to give guest lectures.

What opportunities does SMG offer under the academic mobility program abroad?

Academic programs don’t require students to take courses outside of Kazakhstan.

How many faculty members are in SMG?

There are 10 academic staff members

What countries are the academic staff members from?

The representatives are from Canada, the U.K, Ghana, China, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and Belgium.

Do you provide scholarships to local students?

Yes, education at the undergraduate and graduate level is carried out on the basis of the “Nazarbayev University” educational grant, other grants and scholarships, as well as on a fee basis.

Do you provide scholarships for foreign students?

Yes, there are scholarship options for international students. The key requirement is to demonstrate excellent academic performance during the application process (statement of purpose, GPA, reference letter and interview)

Do you provide accommodation?

Nazarbayev University provides accomodation on campus, in case of availability. The rooms are for 2-4 people and are equipped with all required conveniences.

Will I receive stipend during my studies?

The “Nazarbayev University” educational grant covers tuition fee and other expenses related to education process. For undergraduate students, the stipend amount is based on the students’ academic performance- GPA. For graduate students – 100000 tenge per month.
