Last Saturday, the School of Mining and Geosciences organized the selections for the International Earth Science Olympiads (IESO), which will be held in August 2021. The IESO is an annual competition for secondary school students, in which students test their skills in all major areas of Earth sciences, including geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, astronomy and environmental sciences.
80 students from all over the country took part in an online examination organized by Laurent Richard, Associate Professor at Nazarbayev University, together with the Zhas Geolog organization, and the support of Aiman Khamitova (Innovative Learning) and Gani Izbaskhanov (Software Office).
Nine students have been selected. They will now receive training during 6 months from the faculty and undergraduate students of the Department of Geosciences prior to going to the IESO competition.
