Seminar Invitation: "Carbon Net-Zero and Energy Transition Technology"

Date & Time: April 23, from 15:00 to 16:00
Location: 6 Block, Room 6.302
We are pleased to invite you to an insightful seminar featuring Professor Hyundon Shin, an expert from Inha University, South Korea. Prior to his current role, Professor Shin has garnered extensive experience working with major energy companies such as ConocoPhillips, Suncor Energy, Husky Energy, and Shell. He completed his Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada.

About the Seminar:

This seminar will explore crucial topics including the energy mix, mitigation technologies for achieving carbon net-zero, and the evolving role of the oil industry. As global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise post the industrial revolution, understanding the mix and demand of energy sources becomes ever more critical. Professor Shin will discuss innovative mitigation technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and the pivotal role of petroleum resources and industry in the journey towards a carbon net-zero pathway, with a focus on carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen energy.

About the Speaker:

Professor Hyundon Shin's research primarily focuses on in-situ recovery processes and reservoir characteristics for the development of unconventional resources such as heavy oil, oil sands, and shale gas. His work includes integrating data on reservoir and production, and developing tools for the economic evaluation of unconventional resources' potential based on their properties. Recently, his research has expanded into carbon net-zero mitigation technologies, including carbon capture and storage (CCS).
