On May 30, 2025, the School of Mining and Geosciences (SMG) at Nazarbayev University hosted its second Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) meeting. The event brought together SMG faculty and representatives from key industry partners to evaluate the progress of the School and discuss future strategies for academic development.
The meeting began with a presentation on the State of the School by Dean Randy Hazlett, highlighting recent achievements, ongoing challenges, and strategic goals for the upcoming academic years. Following this, participants engaged in breakout sessions by program—Mining Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Geology—where they discussed program-specific opportunities, industry alignment, and recommendations for enhancing curriculum and graduate readiness.
As part of the session outcomes, each group presented their key insights, focusing on strengthening ties with industry, introducing micro-credential programs, integrating modern technologies and digital tools, and adapting to the evolving educational landscape.
