NU SPE team took 2nd place at The Regional PetroBowl Qualifier, which was held online on the 17th and 18th of April. The main organisers were Atyrau SPE Section, Moscow SPE Section, Kyzylorda SPE Section, Astana SPE Section and Azerbaijan SPE Section. The PetroBowl competition pitches SPE student chapter teams against each other in a series of quick-fire rounds, answering technical and nontechnical petroleum industry-related questions. The contest has grown in size and popularity since its debut in 2002, and in 2015 was taken global.

NU SPE team consisted of Baglan Orynbayev (3rd year Bachelor’s student of Petroleum Engineering), Alinur Muratov and Yernar Tiyntayev (2nd year Bachelor students of Petroleum Engineering), Dias Bekeshov (Chemical Engineering student) and Adilet Aliyev as the team captain (1st year Master’s student of Petroleum Engineering).

As Adilet says “As a team, we continued the tradition that was laid by the very first team in 2019, and were able to take one of the prizes (2019 - 3rd place, 2020 - 1st place, 2021 - 2nd place). Because of this achievement, we received the right to defend the honor not only of our university, but of the entire Russian and Caspian Region of SPE together with a team from Baku, Azerbaijan next fall/winter during the Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition SPE which will take place in Dubai, UAE”.
