Delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited the NU School of Mining and Geosciences

On July 12, 2022, a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited the NU School of Mining and Geosciences. JICA is the independent agency and it assists and supports developing countries as the executing agency of Japanese ODA. In line with its vision outlined in July 2017, JICA contributes to solving problems in developing countries through a flexible combination of different types and methods of cooperation. As an organization responsible for delivering ODA, JICA helps to create a work force, transfer technology and stimulate infrastructure development in different countries through technical cooperation, loans, as well as grant assistance based on bilateral assistance.

The purpose of the visit to the NU School of Mining and Geosciences is to discuss educational needs of Kazakhstan in mining and geology for the technical cooperation of Japan. During the meeting, JICA representative, Dr. Yoshitaka Hosoi, spoke about JICA's activities in the mining industry, ongoing projects, as well as opportunities for cooperation with the NU School of Mining and Geosciences. Dr. Hosoi has a background in mining and economics, and a bachelor's degree in engineering from Akita University and a PhD in economics from the University of Queensland.
